Flooring — common questions
What goes under the floor?
Screeding, levelling and a moisture barrier where needed. It is invisible and it is most of the reason a floor either stays flat or starts lifting at the edges after a summer.
Can you lay over the existing tiles?
Sometimes, with vinyl or laminate, if the existing floor is sound and level. It saves demolition but raises the floor height, which affects doors and thresholds. We check at the survey.
How long is a floor out of use?
Vinyl and laminate are walkable the same day. Tiling and stone need the adhesive and grout to cure — normally 24 to 48 hours before furniture goes back.
